Jordan Wildman scored 21 points and Silas Bauer added 18 to lead Class 1A, #8 ranked Loogootee past Vincennes Rivet to remain unbeaten in Blue Chip Conference play. On a night in which 11 players entered the scoring column, the Lions were 25-44 (57%) from the field, including 7-16 (44%) from 3-pt range en route to a 73-31 convincing win over the Patriots inside of Ralph Holscher Gymnasium.

In what has become a trend for Ryan Haywood’s team, LHS jumped out to a 15-0 behind lead before Vincennes Rivet finally got their first field goal at 2:15 mark in the first quarter. Behind six points each from Silas Bauer, Peyton Bledsoe and Jordan Wildman, Loogootee led 20-5 after one. The second period was a mirror image of the first as the Lions scored the first 11 points of the frame, while holding VR scoreless until Trevon Taylor finally scored with 1:57 left in the half. LHS found themselves ahead 31-5, and would end up carrying a 34-11 lead into the locker room. Nathaniel Hart would come off the bench in the third to continue his team’s onslaught. The senior scored a team-high seven points in the quarter as Loogootee (10-3, 4-0 in BCC) remained in control on their way to a 52-23 advantage after three. The Lions went to their bench in the fourth and didn’t miss a beat as junior, Bryant Eckerle netted a quick six points to go with a humorous and unexpected exchange of pleasantries with the referee as he came off the floor. LHS went on to outscore Vincennes Rivet (3-7, 1-2 in BCC) by a 21-8 margin in the game’s final quarter to complete its 73-31 victory.

Friday’s win gives Loogootee a 43-8 lead in the overall series against the Patriots since the two teams first met back in 1978. Behind a combined 34 points from Richard Burch (20) and Bob Butcher (14), the Lions won that game 60-25.
