The Loogootee Lions finally broke the spell of the Cougar Den by defeating Pike Central 54-38 to earn 7th place in the ONB Holiday Classic. More importantly, the LHS victory finally put the brakes on an 8-game skid, which included several gut-wrenching defeats. After grasping a 14-10 lead to begin the game, Loogootee managed just two points in the second quarter. This allowed the Chargers (1-8, 0-1 in PLC) to climb back in the game and eventually take a 19-16 lead by halftime. The Lions, however, came out of the locker room with a strong 3rd quarter and outscored PC to the tune of 21-10. Loogootee (4-9, 0-3 in BCC) added on to its 37-29 lead in the final stanza to break the game open, resulting in the 54-38 win. Saturday’s game against Pike Central marked the first time the two have played since the 2011-12 season. The Lions currently hold a 42-5 lead in the all-time series.
